TIME FOR YOU, MORE GOLF AND LOUIS57 WINE!

fairways & beyond

Atlantic Beach is one of the finest estate courses in the country.

For most, December and January is holiday time. Time for relaxing, catching up with friends and family, and perhaps getting away, but most importantly it’s a time to play more golf! There is very little that can beat the early morning tee off, when the course is still crisp and looking beautiful as the morning sun rises. The clear smack of the club making a perfect strike and the ball sailing down the middle of the fairway – well, that would be complete perfection – but you know what I mean.

The DP World Tour’s new season has started, with the Investec South African Open being the second event on the Sunshine Tour Summer Swing. Blair Atholl Golf & Equestrian Estate looked a picture and a beautiful advertisement for golf and our country. The golf was of the highest standard, and despite being at altitude, the 7 100m to a maximum of 8 161m from the tips, made for a tough and exciting test of golf. The maximum length of the course makes it the longest in the DP World Tour’s history. With the par threes averaging around 200m, the course was a monster! Well done to Dean Burmester – not only is he the Investec SA Open champion but also a back-to-back winner, having won the Joberg Openthe week before! Congratulations on an extremely calm, professional and solid game that proved there is no substitute for experience. May this be the start of a wonderful season, Dean!

I really am proud of how TGM® is progressing. Every month we try to get better, pushing our design and constantly talking about the content and how we can improve it and give you guys the best golf mag experience possible. As the new kid on the block we are always looking at how we grow the magazine readership – how we get more golfers to recognise and adopt the brand. Our newest collaboration with Louis57 Wines, one of our most successful golfers Louis Oosthuizen’s brand, is a great start. So, sign up to ensure you get the mag every month, put yourself inline to win some great wine and of course go into the grand prize at the end of next year. Thank you to Bertu Nel and the Louis57 team, we certainly look forward to working with you in 2024.

Finally, I would like to wish all of you a wonderful, healthy and golf-filled festive season and New Year. May 2024 be a year where not only do we all play great golf, but we also take time to think about all the folks who work behind the scenes who make playing this wonderful game possible. The club staff, the halfway house staff, the barmen and waiters, the greenkeepers, the ground staff, the caddies, the marshals, the teaching pros and all those backroom people we never think of thanking, or take for granted as we tee off or when we sit on the stoep recalling our game and sharing a cold one. Thank you!

See you on the fairway!
