VAN WYK MAKING HAY ON THE US COLLEGIATE CIRCUIT

College of Charleston senior Kieron van Wyk soared to the No. 1 spot in the Bridgestone APGA Collegiate Ranking after his third victory on US soil in October. The GolfRSA National Squad member fired rounds of 64, 66 and 65 to go 21 under at the White Sands Bahamas Invitational. The five-stroke victory also earned him a coveted a spot at the PGA Tour's Puerto Rico Open. Van Wyk, a former South African Golf Development Board member, also ranks sixth in the NCAA Individual Rankings.

BROOMHEAD CLAIMS SECOND WIN THIS SEASON

At the end of a stunningly composed week, Jonathan Broomhead showed his first bit of emotion when he hugged his caddie and girlfriend after claiming the third victory of his Sunshine Tour career and his second this season at the Blue Label Challenge at Gary Player Country Club. He completed a wire-to-wire triumph and won by four points on a total of 45 points overall as part of the modified Stableford scoring system used for this tournament.

WORLD-CLASS JOBURG OPEN AND JOBURG LADIES OPEN GO BIG

The Joburg Open and Joburg Ladies Open will bring world-class men and women’s professional golf to the City of Johannesburg, with these two premier tournaments showcasing international fields and providing global opportunities. The Joburg Open will take up a new position on the golf calendar when this prestigious co-sanctioned event becomes part of the DP World Tour’s International Swing in 2025. It has moved to a new time slot of 6-9 March 2025 and will return to Houghton Golf Club. Meanwhile, the premier Sunshine Ladies Tour and Ladies European Tour co-sanctioned Joburg Ladies Open returns to Modderfontein Golf Club from 3-6 April 2025.

PROTEAS POWER TO ALL AFRICA WIN IN ZIMBABWE

The SA Proteas side showed their tenacity and dug in their heels to secure a 12th continental title for the African powerhouse at the All Africa Golf Team Championship in Zimbabwe at the end of October. After South Africa suffered their first loss at this prestigious biennial event in Egypt in 2022, captain Jordan Burnand, supported by Ivan Verster, JP van der Walt and new cap Astin Arthur, arrived at Bulawayo Golf Club determined to bring the trophy back home.

CELEBRATION TIME FOR CHALLENGE TOUR GRADUATES

Kristoffer Reitan held his nerve to win the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final supported by The R&A and secure promotion to the DP World Tour, while Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen topped the Road to Mallorca Rankings. Norwegian Reitan signed for a closing four under par round of 68 to reach 23 under par for the week and win by one from Dane Neergaard-Petersen and Spaniard Angel Ayora at Club de Golf Alcanada.

TOMMY FLEETWOOD SET FOR DP WORLD TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Olympic silver medallist Tommy Fleetwood is set to chase more glory in the 2024 Race to Dubai as he competes at the DP World Tour Championship from 14-17 November. Fleetwood will join four-time Major Champion Rory McIlroy at the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates for the season-ending Rolex Series event. A Dubai resident, the world No 11 has enjoyed significant success in the UAE, with three of his seven DP World Tour titles coming in the region.

OOSTHUIZEN BACK FOR A SHOT AT THE “DUNHILL DOUBLE”

Louis Oosthuizen will seek to become only the third player in the history of the Alfred Dunhill Championship to successfully defend his title when he returns to Leopard Creek from 12-15 December. Oosthuizen has confirmed his place in this Sunshine Tour and DP World Tour co-sanctioned tournament and adds to a strong South African challenge that also includes Thriston Lawrence, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Erik van Rooyen and Dean Burmester.
